East Cowes Victoria 0-0 New Milton Town
Starting – Burgess, Peckham, Molynuex, Texciera, Barber, Maddocks (c), McCoy, Power, Flynn, Falco, Brailey. Subs – Sheridan, Lines, Louka.
Shane Sheridans New Milton got their season underway on Saturday with an away point in the Isle Of Wight versus East Cowes Victoria. The match, played in glorious Cowes Week sunshine started at a frantic pace with both sides charging end to end, excited to be back playing.
The first real chance came when Lyam Texciera rose highest to head goalwards from a Lewi Brailey corner only for the ball to bounce just wide. Brailey, a summer recruit from local rivals Bashley floated a number of teasing balls in during the game but New Milton couldn’t pounce.
In the second half Dom Falco dribbled well, beating 2 men before smashing the ball off the base of the post. Chances were at a premium for both sides although Kieran Burgess in the Linnets net look assured as ever with everything he had to deal with.
Sheridan came on late in the game and created some space for himself in the final minutes but a last ditch tackle from an East Cowes defender meant it finished as a stalemate.
Youngster Ethan Maddocks, who captained The Linnets in their final game last season, was announced as the captain of the club.
