Preview: Frimley Green vs New Milton

Writer: Jamie TarrantJamie Tarrant

New Milton Town travel to 2nd-place Frimley Green on Saturday afternoon in a top-of-the-table clash in the Wessex League Division One. The Brickmakers will aim to get one step closer to title glory, whilst Frimley Green will look to gnaw at the points gap.

Manager Matt Maybury said the following ahead of the fixture.

"‘It’s a big game, but we’ve emphasised to the lads this week that the pressure isn’t on us. We’ve seen recently that anyone can beat anyone in this league so it’s important we stay focused but let the team play with freedom.
Frimley’s home record is second to none, it’s not easy to go unbeaten all season at home, so that has got to be respected. We’ve had them watched a few times at their place and they’re fearless and really well drilled, but we know our own strengths and gameplan. Whether we win, lose or draw it’s all to play for but we’ve got a game plan and we’ll put everything into getting a positive result".

The game will kick off at the usual Saturday time of 3 pm.

FORM COMPARISON / LAST TEN FIXTURES

Despite two defeats in their last ten Wessex League fixtures following the well-documented 22-match unbeaten run, the Brickmakers have still won seven and drawn one. Big wins away at Ringwood Town, East Cowes, and Fleetlands are the highlights of their recent match history. Matt Maybury's team has also found the net 28 times in their last ten outings.

On the other hand, Frimley Green have won six of their last ten after suffering surprise defeats away to relegation-threatened Whitchurch United and Fawley AFC. Their last outing saw a strong 2-0 victory away at Newport IOW. They are currently the top scorers in the league with 98 goals and are unbeaten on home turf.
