Preview: New Milton vs Cove

The stage is set for an electric start to 2025 as league leaders New Milton Town host 11th-placed Cove at the M.A. Hart Stadium tomorrow in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. The Brickmakers are eager to extend their lead at the top of the table, while Cove arrive looking to turn their fortunes around.

Matt Maybury said the following ahead of the fixture.

"Our opponents today, Cove, are a dangerous side. They are full of pace in attack and they can really hurt teams.
We ran out fairly comfortable winners at their place earlier this season but they caused us lots of problems in the first half.
Looking back at us from then to now, I feel that as a group we have become a lot stronger and we need to prove that once more today and moving forward. We’ll need to be at it from the get go and hopefully have a strong start to the year 2025."

League Form Guide - Wessex Div. 1

New Milton are flying high with a phenomenal run of form, boasting an unbeaten streak of 14 games. The Brickmakers’ attacking flair and defensive resilience have made them the team to beat this season. They have shown a knack for grinding out results when needed and blowing teams away when given the opportunity.

Manager Matt Maybury will surely be emphasising the importance of starting the new year as they finished the last—strong and full of purpose.

In contrast, Cove have struggled to find consistency, with just one win in their last 10 matches. However, with the unpredictability of football, Cove will be hoping to spring a surprise and spoil the party for the Brickmakers.

Head to Head - New Milton vs Cove

The two sides have only met three times, and it’s New Milton who hold the upper hand.

Their most recent clash in August saw a dominant 4-0 away win for the Brickmakers, with Barney Stone stealing the show with a brilliant brace. The last encounter at the M.A. Hart Stadium ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw, where Stone once again proved to be Cove’s tormentor-in-chief with another two goals.

The remaining fixture between the teams also ended in a New Milton victory, meaning Cove are yet to claim a single win over the Brickmakers.
