Preview: New Milton vs Fawley

Writer: Jamie TarrantJamie Tarrant

Match sponsored by The Fencing Centre

New Milton Town return to the hallowed turf at the M.A. Hart Stadium tomorrow afternoon, looking to put the wrongs of last weekend to bed following their narrow 3-2 defeat to the Isle of Wight's Newport, who led 3-0 at the break.

Fawley AFC, however, come into this game on very good form after a turn in fortune.

Matt Maybury said the following ahead of the fixture.

"Fawley have improved massively over the past few weeks. We’ve had them watched a couple of times and they’re an extremely decent side who enjoy defending and having something to hang on to.
We need a reaction from the first half of last week, the lads know they owe it to us and you could see in training this week they are absolutley raring to go"

FORM COMPARISON / LAST TEN FIXTURES

Despite two defeats in their last ten Wessex League fixtures following the well-documented 22-match unbeaten run, the Brickmakers have still won seven and drawn one, with big wins away at Ringwood Town, East Cowes, and Fleetlands the highlights of their recent match history. Matt Maybury's team have also found the net 28 times in their last ten outings.

Fawley, on the other hand, have had differing form that has picked up in the last three weeks, having brought in new faces. They are currently unbeaten in four games. Within two weeks, they were defeated by second-placed Frimley Green 7-2 away from home before dismantling them 4-0 in the return fixture, just one of their recent highlights in their upturn.

The league table suggests that the game will be competitive.

New Milton sit top and are attempting to get over the line in the race for promotion, while Fawley have now reduced the gap to safety to just 4 points.

"Brad Snelling's hat-trick and a cool finish from Heath Thornton saw New Milton Town comfortably through to the Wessex League Cup quarter-finals with a 4-1 win.

It was a frosty evening at the M.A. Hart Stadium, but 106 brave souls attended the game. Manager Matt Maybury made seven changes to the starting eleven from the weekend's 3-1 win over Totton & Eling in the Wessex League."
