Match sponsored by OvenU Poole and Parents of U11s Highcliffe Hawks Football Team
New Milton Town host 8th-place Newport IOW tomorrow afternoon at the M.A. Hart Stadium as they continue their bid to win promotion from the Wessex League Division One. The sides played out a 1-1 draw the last time they met back in August 2024.
Manager Matt Maybury said the following ahead of Newport's visit.
“We’ve got seven cup finals to go and that starts tomorrow against Newport.
We know the threat they pose. They’re a good side, and they’ll be coming over with nothing to lose, which makes them even more dangerous. Joe will have them well drilled, so we’ve got to make sure we take control of the game from the start.
We got a really good session into the lads this week and now it’s up to the lads to take that into Saturday and back up the good win we had last week.”
Matt Maybury's team are unbeaten against teams from the island so far in this campaign. They won against East Cowes at Beatrice Avenue last month and beat Premier side Cowes Sports earlier in the season in the second round of the Wessex League Cup.
FORM COMPARISON / LAST TEN FIXTURES
The Brickmakers have won eight of their previous ten league games, including a 22-game unbeaten run that ended with a 4-1 defeat away to Romsey Town at the end of February.
However, they have only been beaten by teams in the top half of the table twice this season: Frimley Green and Romsey Town, both of which took place in August.
New Milton Town have scored 30 goals in their last 10 league games.
Newport, on the other hand, have only taken three points in three of their last ten Wessex League encounters, with defeats to Hamworthy, Ash United, AFC Aldermaston, Clanfield, Fleetlands and Verwood Town. The Coptermen won their last league fixture 3-2 after a ding-dong battle at home to a rejuvenated Whitchurch United team.
LAST TIME / NEWPORT 1-1 NEW MILTON
17th August 2024 - M.A. Hart Stadium
"Newport entertained one of the title favourites today on a hot afternoon, demanding the return of the water break. Newport welcomed back Joe Butcher and Ji Nash but without the suspended Harry Catania and injured captain Jordan Browne, who continues his recovery from a lower leg knock he picked up during the first match of the season..."
